This Reindeer Gallery features Native
People's reindeer in the Nenets Okrug, near the Barents Sea. Reindeer are the
primary food sources for Nenets. Some Nenets live in forests all year around
others migrate with their reindeer. Migration is to above the Arctic Circle,
near the sea. This area is where the animals give birth. There are almost no
insects by the sea, an important fact. Insects are a primary reason for the
migration. In the forest smoke has to be used to control the insects.
Reindeer Pictures are from Russia, above the Arctic Circle.
Special thanks to David and Masha who took and are in these pictures. It was an
exciting day for them one they will remember for ever.
